I though Ivanhoe was good, however arriving in Balwyn with my family we now realise how lucky we are to be living here. The schools, the walks, the bike tracks, the facilities, the people. Close to facilities, amazing walks on the old light rail tracks, the friendliness of new people we meet. Proximity to some of Melbourne's best schools, great restaurants on Whitehorse Rd and property prices proven over many years.
I want it to be known from here, they are much more than a wine bar, the food was some of the most consistently amazing I’ve had all year, each dish as good as the last, none of them letting the next down. The service was impeccable bouchard chassagne montrachet despite having to navigate around some very small table settings, they spaced out the courses perfectly to ensure we never felt overwhelmed. Melbourne’s cafes are recognised around the world, and it’s easy to see why.

The smokiness of the octopus was so moreish I was dipping my bread in the leftover jus on my plate. For the vegetarians, I tried the broad bean crudo – even if you think broad beans aren’t your thing, it’s on a bed of stracciatella which honestly can make anything 10/10. Only having opened in June this year, Enoteca Boccaccio is already winning awards left, right and centre including design awards and a Good Food Guide hat.

Buxton Black Truffles in season (mid-June to late August) are used from time to time by fine food restaurants in Melbourne CBD, Kew, Healesville and the Yarra Valley, and in the Murrindindi region. From where I’m sitting, it’s equal parts community service and canny business decision for a beloved Mediterranean grocer to launch an eat-in option. It’s a phrase that gets thrown around loosely but Enoteca truly offers something for everyone, whether you’re after a well-executed pasta or a few nice nibbles and a wine list you can trust. There’s a wine fridge on entry that’s reflected in the extensive selection.
But this cafe, homewares and furniture store is anything but small. It's in a light-filled warehouse with a spacious, homey kitchen, there are traditional breakfasts and takeaway lunches. They're a fitting segue into white polenta so fine it's almost textureless, topped with a tower of tender duck liver, caramelised onion and mustard fruit dressing. It’s a dish that could almost succumb to its layers of softness and richness,  but offers enough acidity and texture to maintain variety and balance. However, I would thoroughly recommend the location to anyone. It is one of those locations that really gives you everything with just a short walk, without being too close to the city which tends to attract noise and congestion. How many stores can you go into and the staff know your name, say Hello and ask after your family, have put aside the last breadstick for you because they know you always come in for one on a Saturday arvo? Well, come to Balwyn and you get that plus quiet streets, warm and friendly neighbours , bowls of water outside properties for your pets to have a drink when on their daily walks. Close to top public school, Balwyn High School, close to all top private schools , close to shops and public transport.
