How To Make Deodorant
Dr. Squatch uses a combination of ingredients like charcoal powder to block odor, probiotics to prevent the growth of bacteria, and arrowroot to wick away excess moisture. Mix one part baking soda with one part cornstarch. Just apply by patting it under your armpits.
Heat until all contents are completely melted. You can opt to cover the bowl with a piece of foil to make the melting process quicker. Once they are all melted, remove from heat. Add the three teaspoons of arrow root powder and the 6 drops of vitamin e oil to the bowl. Stir well to make sure all the ingredients are combined well. The solution will be a hazy yellow color when it is ready.
But I have not done an armpit detox and I just got some bentonite clay so we’ll see if that helps! I’ll have to check for your spray recipe too! The baking soda might cause a rash on some people and that’s what you should watch out for if you have very sensitive skin. I was able to get the oil out of my clothes by rubbing the stain with a paste of dish detergent and baking soda before I threw them in the wash. I’m playing around with fractionated coconut oil right now.
Let's stop questioning the why we use deodorant and look at the way we use it. Magnesium is an essential and beneficial mineral that doesn’t get as much recognition as calcium. Well, over half the US population is, to some extent, deficient in this mineral. Sweating is one of the ways that our bodies detoxify.
A lot of the homemade deodorants call for baking soda, which I do use frequently for many other things, but baking soda and my armpits do not agree. Get back with me when you get a moment please. This is a go-to for deodorant recipes, for good reason. Actually, I always have some on hand for both food and skincare recipes. Arrowroot not only helps to serve as a thickener in this deodorant, but it also has the power to help draw out toxins. Since when we sweat we are eliminating toxins, why not help draw them out!?
I’m not really sure about a substitute. The thing is, you don’t actually need it. It’s what helps to give it the nice stay-in-the-container shape and hardness, but you could also just have a softer deodorant that you scoop out of a jar with your fingers. And the tea tree and lavender are antibacterial and antifungal, so they do contribute a bit, but they aren’t completely necessary. Since my homemade carpet powder relies on essential oils for its freshening power, it has other benefits too. Essential oils not only smell great, but they can also improve your mood, clear your sinuses, or even make you feel more energized.
Switching from commercial to homemade deodorant can come with a transition period. Your body may take time to adjust to the natural formula, especially if you're used to antiperspirants. Be patient and give your body a couple of weeks to acclimate. When you make your own deodorant, you have complete control over the ingredients. Whether it's choosing a scent that you love or tweaking the formula to suit your skin type, DIY allows for a level of customization that store-bought deodorants can't match.
It would not spread on my underarms without making a mess. I threw it away and I am really disappointed that I wasted the ingredients. I followed the recipe exactly as stated. TEXTURE – this is not like store-bought deodorant. The texture is more “wet” but will absorb quickly into your skin. Also, if you are using this deodorant recipe in a area with hot climate or in the summer, then you will want to put it in a small jar and scoop it out with your fingers.
When you apply the powder mixture, just pinch a small amount in your fingers and rub on the entire surface of the arm pit. I usually do this with clothes on already. Underarms There may be a small tingle, so wait until you’re fully dry after the shower to apply. If it is not strong enough, just simply add more oils to your mixture.
Coconut oil is readily available, has well documented anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties, and gives the finished product smoothness and glide. Goal was to create a formula that has mainly deodorant and some antiperspirant properties through the use of targeted ingredients. I have to say that I don’t sweat that much, so this natural deodorant option works great for me, but it depends on each individual person. Beeswax pellets – beeswax is mostly included in this recipe to keep the deodorant solid and non-greasy. But beeswax is also beneficial to use on your skin.
With this recipe, I wake up the morning after applying (so we’re talking approx. 24 hours) and I still don’t smell anything! It’s just great stuff (I keep mine in a jar, in the bathroom so I don’t have to worry about refrigeration). I’ve been using deodorant like this for a while now — with the coconut oil and everything.
Never disregard medical advice or delay seeking medical care because of something you have read on this blog. This recipe can be made in batches and is easy to store for later use. I like to keep one in my bathroom for the morning then another bottle in my bag for when I need to freshen up when we are out and about. Therefore, I needed a deodorant that is toxin free and actually works.
Awesome Kathi, way to take the bull by the horns and make a positive change in your life. Remember the deodorant is not an anti-perspirant, so it won’t stop sweating and we shouldn’t try to stop the sweating, it’s one key way our body rids itself of toxins. What the deodorant does do is just that, it helps kill and prevent odor causing bacteria. Here’s the recipe for stick deodorant I’ve been using for about a year. It lasts about 12 hours for me, but doesn’t prevent sweating. If you live somewhere hot, you may have to add more beeswax to keep it solid.
Here’s a list of my favorite natural deodorants. Here are a few of my favorite essential oils for a great-smelling deodorant. Use one oil or a combo of a couple of different oils.
