Morrison Field, later renamed the Palm Beach International Airport, opened in 1936. The estimated 2012 population of West Palm Beach and the immediately adjacent Census Designated Places is 134,795. Much of this urbanized area lies directly west of the city and includes the neighborhoods of Westgate, Belvedere Homes, Lakeside Green, Century Village, Schall Circle, Lake Belvedere Estates, Plantation Mobile Homes, and Golden Lakes.
Television stations serving the West Palm Beach area include WPTV , WPEC , WPBF , WFLX , WTVX , WXEL , WTCN , and WPXP . The West Palm Beach market shares use of WSCV and WLTV for Telemundo and Univision respectively. Also, both markets cross over and tend to be available interchangeably between both areas. In 2015, WPBT and WXEL merged their operations, to form South Florida PBS, although both stations have maintained separate programming schedules and social media platforms, but share the same subchannel lineup. As of 2005, the Miami area had a total of 2.3 million housing units, 13% of which were vacant. Of the total housing units, 52% were in single-unit structures, 45% were in multi-unit structures, and 3% were mobile homes.

These airports combine to make the fourth largest domestic origin and destination market in the United States, after New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago. In 2005, 82% of people 25 years and over had at least graduated from high school and 28% had a bachelor's degree or higher. Among people 16 to 19 years old, 7% were dropouts; they were not enrolled in school and had not graduated from high school. The total school enrollment in the Miami metro area was 1.4 million in 2005. Nursery school and kindergarten enrollment was 170,000 and elementary or high school enrollment was 879,000.

Additionally, the Haverhill BR, Palms Central, and West Palm Beach post offices are located in an unincorporated area, while the Lake Park Post Office is located in Lake Park, despite having a West Palm Beach address. The five members of the city council are each elected from districts. Although it lacks a fully dry season, the period from November through April is warm and drier, with 80 °F (27 °C) temperatures remaining fairly commonplace even from December through February. Occasionally, a stronger cold front can lower daytime temperatures to around 57 °F (14 °C), the annual mean minimum max temperature, and lows to around 38 °F (3 °C).
South Florida is largely confined to a strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and Everglades, and Miami's urbanized area is about 100 miles long and at most 20 miles east to west; in some areas, its east to west width is only 5 miles . The Miami metropolitan statistical area is the second-longest urbanized area in the United States behind the New York metropolitan area. It was the eighth-most densely populated urbanized area in the United States as of the 2000 census. Miami is the region's financial and cultural core and most populous city.

The reported price of the just-closed sale fell short of Palm Beach's two priciest residential real estate deals, which both closed last year — an off-market sale reported at $170 million for an oceanfront estate at 589 N. County Road; and a private transaction recorded at $155 million for the estate of the late Rush Limbaugh at 1495 N. The deal on North County Road was structured so that the sale price was never documented at the courthouse.
The new city public library opened in April 2009 at 411 Clematis Street, replacing the 1962 building which stood at the intersection of Clematis Street and Flagler Drive, along the Intracoastal Waterfront. Named for a Mandel Foundation grant received in 2012, the Mandel Public Library provides books, performances, classes, research, entertainment, technology, music and more. Public middle school students are served by nine different schools, including Bak Middle School of the Arts, Bear Lakes, Conniston, Jeaga, John F. Kennedy, Okeeheelee, Palm Springs, Roosevelt, and Western Pines. There is year-round rainfall, with the majority falling in a wet season from May through October that is hot and humid.

Day – and you can honor the civil rights leader's legacy during special events planned throughout Miami-Dade County. The Palm Beach Daily News, another publication owned by Gannett, serves the town of Palm Beach. It frequently covers issues and affairs of the Palm Beach city council. It also extends coverage to events taking place in West Palm Beach. Its name notwithstanding, the Post is based in West Palm Beach, not Palm Beach.
The renovation on Tarpon Island more than doubled the size of the 1930s-era Bermudian-style house on the east side of the property. The project turned that house into a guesthouse with an ultra-luxury fitness-and-beauty area. A new, much-larger addition with the main living areas was built onto the original house in a similar architectural style. The main residence has an expansive living area and a loggia with a fireplace, summer kitchen and bar facing the pool, the well-equipped dock and the water. The long list of amenities includes one of the town’s only lighted tennis courts and two swimming pools, one of which stretches 98 feet along the lakefront with a whirlpool spa and a “cold plunge” pool. The sale also is the most expensive residential transaction to close in Florida — and likely in the country — so far this year, according to real estate observers.
When this occurs low temperatures can dip into the 40s during the early morning hours before quickly warming-up toward late morning/early afternoon. It is rare for temperatures to drop below 40 °F (4 °C), however, low temperatures at or around 35 °F (2 °C) have occurred some years. South Florida only experiences these cold spells about twice each winter and they typically only last a day or two before temperatures return to the mid 70s.
