A week in Taipei seems about right as we were there for 8 nights last week. There is so much to do in and around taipei that we still did not get see everything we planned. One highlight was the Pandas at the Zoo – they were so active when we were there – I have some great Videos. Get yourself Easy cards – makes it so easy getting around on buses and trains. The Taiwan people are the friendliest people we have come across – they will amaze you.
Taiwan has a history going back thousands of years. From a cursory glance at the map the vast majority are concentrated 台東必買伴手禮 on the west side of the island. The east side appears to be mainly forested hills and mountains.
Oh no, we get to Taipei in the arvo, and I was thinking we go to Yangmingshan the next morning. I was thinking of just getting there by public transport.. I actually bookmarked Yehliu but didn’t realise how close it was until now. Singapore is likely to be a cheaper option owing to the shear amount of seats available, although spot specials to Osaka could tilt that option to being lower at times. Even the most popular destinations in Thailand are daily or every 2nd day depending on the airline.
But the officers were also very helpful in directing us on to our next spot and the Centre has a wide range of exhibits on the history of the park and area, wildlife and volcanic activity. The National Park is famous for its cherry blossoms, hot springs, sulfur deposits, fumaroles, venomous snakes, and hiking trails, including Taiwan’s tallest dormant volcano at 1120m, Seven Star Mountain. No cherry blossoms today but the drive through this beautiful park was well worth it, even if the roads were a bit narrow in places.
The official stance of Taiwan is that Taiwan is part of China. But the China that this stance refers to is the Republic of China instead of the communist People’s Republic of China . Sun Yat-sen was first president of the Republic of China from 1919 to and the first leader of the Kuomintang the Nationalist Party of China. He was referred to as the Father of the Nation and is revered apparently more so now in Taiwan than in China. Given the nationalistic, even jingoistic nature of modern China, it is difficult to see how anybody espousing democracy and livelihood, could still be revered in communist China.

It borders a breathtaking coastline that complements the magnificent view of the valleys and mountains in the distance. It is scantily populated, and so perfect for enjoying profound peace and tranquility. However, the relaxing ambiance is also perfect for fun-filled family activities, including photo opportunities and outdoor sports. Going to Taiwan at the end of December – this time I'll travel around the island instead of staying in Taipei as I did when I went there for my first time. Tho' the relatively recent modern subway is the easiest to contemplate for getting around Taipei – local buses tend to be cheaper and you get to see more if you're a tourist. I'm currently thinking about one week in Taipei (e.g. 4 days at the beginning of the trip, and 3 days at the end) and maybe 4 – 5 days in Hualien. Some of the photos I've seen are pretty grass roots, so hygiene immediately popped into mind. 'Round the Island Tourist Pass', costs $1706 NTD, and is a coupon book of 7 trips, can't double back on trips, cannot be used on Taiwan High Speed Rail , valid for 15 days.

The bullet train system down the west coast is excellent – don't bother to fly domestically. I thought it was awesome – I really like Taiwan. It's one of the few places I've visited where I've thought that I could live in the future, and I don't even speak any Taiwanese or Mandarin...
