Travelling to Taiwan Questions & Tips

We are already planning to go back for more and to do a circuit of the island via train. Noticed that Decathlon Taiwan is MUCH cheaper than Decathlon Australia for outdoors stuff. Elsewhere clothes and electronics pricing was similar to Australia. I took the MRT from Taipei Main Station to Luzhou (as @futurism pointed out) then took the Bus no. 20.

In your opinion, which would be the livelier place to stay in Kaohsiung; around the HSR terminal, the old train station or the seafront area? Or another alternative is doing the  East Coast of Taiwan. Since I'll be in Taipei with my friend for 5 days I will move out of Taipei. I am thinking book a hotel in Kaohsiung and spending two days in this city and use the train for an hour to day trip to Tainan.
